Thursday, April 28 - Rookie Landestoy Leads Dodgers
The Dodgers use a 17-hit attack led by rookie shortstop Rafael Landestoy (.230, 4 SB), who goes 5-for-6 with two doubles to lead Los Angeles to a 10-1 demolishing of the Padres.
Since being given the reigns of the shortstop position and the subsequent placement of popular Bill Russell on waivers, Landestoy has struggled, hitting just .176. But the 24-year old is undeterred.
"Every game, every inning, every out and every pitch I am getting better. This ball club put their faith in me and I won't forget that. I'm hoping it won't take long to make to return on that investment."
Rick Monday (.323, 3 HR, 10 RBI) comes within a double of hitting for the cycle to go along with three runs batted in, Reggie Smith (.308, 17 RBI) drives in three runs of his own and Vic Davalillo (.219) has a pair of doubles to lead the offense.
"I'll admit I though 'Ropes' (Russell) got a pretty raw deal leaving LA, but seeing this kid play - I think they might have made the right choice." star first baseman Steve Garvey stated. "Of course, if he doesn't start hitting the ball consistantly, I have the right to retract that comment."
Rick Rhoden pitches a complete game, allowing seven hits while striking out three and giving up five walks.
