England - Lightweight - Semi-Finals & Final
Semi-Finals:
Dave Charnley vs Austin Gibbons - Gibbons had questioned Charnley's manhood during the prefight press conference, saying that he didn't have the "nads" to stand in there and slug it out with him. Charnley gave Gibbons exactly what he asked for as both men went at it with gusto throughout! In the 6th round, Charnley landed the perfect uppercut that laid Gibbons out for the count. Afterwards Gibbons apologized and gave Charnley the respect he had due to him.
Johnny Summers vs Maurice Cullen - Your basic boxer - slugger match up with both men having moments, but neither impressing (I had it a draw at 7-7). The judges scored the bout 8-5, 7-6, 8-5 for Summers.
Final:
Dave Charnley vs Johnny Summers - Charnley looked to be in top shape while Summers seemed a bit pudgy coming into this one. Charnley came charging out like a pitbull unleashed, landing a devastating series of blows that ended with a solid hook that dumped Summers on his back. Summers somehow got up, and Charnley went after him with even more gusto, landing another series of shots before another smothering combination put him down again, this time for the count for the KO at 2:59 in the 1st round! Charnley moves into the World Tourney with a perfect 5-0-0 (3) record.
