Sunbirds Lindgren Injured, May Miss Playoffs
Belair Beach fans will be disappointed to learn that Tiny Lindgren suffered an injury in today's game. Doctors told manager Marty Pedroza that Lindgren would miss one to two weeks with a pulled hamstring muscle.
Pedroza said, "This is a terrible loss, but we'll worry about this later. Right now the Ranford Bulls are my most immediate concern. We've got to beat Ranford today to stay in the playoffs or we can all go home for the winter."
The Sunbirds have signed Lou Zanelli as a roster replacement for Lindgren. Zanelli was 19-25 with a 3.74 ERA with Belair Beach from 2001 to 2003. However Joe Schmidt will take over Lindgren's spot in the rotation. Schmidt was 9-7 this season with a 3.29 ERA. He made 13 starts and appeared in 42 games.
Checking out his stats for the year, Lindgren racked up 21 wins and 10 losses in 40 starts, 2.48 ERA and struck out 171 batters in 301 innings. In the postseason Lindgren has started three games with an 0-2 mark, but has compiled a fine 2.70 ERA. He will be severely missed by Belair Beach. It will be very difficult for the Sunbirds to compete in the Pro Cup Series without him.
