England - Jr. Welterweights Semi-Finals & Final
Semi-Finals:
Ricky Hatton vs Amir Khan - Absolutely amazing fight with both men going back and forth throughout. Hatton scored the lone knockdown, and won the fight 9-6, 8-7, 8-7 despite Khan dominating the 15th round looking for a knockout. Both men met at ring center and embraced warmly after this sparkling exhibition of pugilism!
Jack Kid Berg vs Terry Marsh - Berg walked into a Marsh hook on the very first punch of the fight then held on to barely survive the first round! He then went defensive, punishing Marsh for moving in so swiftly for the next several rounds, then they wen't back and forth the rest of the fight. In the end, despite the lone knockdown, the judges scored it 8-7, 9-6, 8-7 for the favorite Berg!
Final:
Ricky Hatton vs Jack Kid Berg - Berg put on a boxing clinic in this one, controling the pace throughout. He landed an amazing 628 of 1218 punches (51.6) while only allowing 211 of 1108 (19.0%) by Hatton. Hatton's problem was eye swelling as both eyes were swelling badly half way through the fight, and his corner was concerned about the fight being ended at any time so he was sent out for the KO for the second half of the fight every round. This allowed Berg to pick his man apart as Hatton was unable to see punches from different angles. At the end, the judges scored it 12-2, 11-3, 11-3 for Berg who moves to the World Tourney!
