England - Middleweights Semi-Finals & Final
Semi-Finals:
Bob Fitzsimmons vs Terry Downes - Fitzsimmons came out throwing bombs against Downes right from the start. He sent Downes crashing into the ropes then rained punches down unmercifully until the referee ended things at 2:45 in the 1st round for a TKO win.
Randy Turpin vs Jock McAvoy - Turpin survived 3 knockdowns in the first 5 rounds, then turned things around as McAvoy had punched himself out. He moved fluidly from there on, popping jabs and combos seemingly at will to pull out the come from behind decision 8-6, 7-7, 8-6.
Final:
Bob Fitzsimmons vs Randy Turpin - Turpin used superior handspeed and excellent footwork to avoid Fitzsimmon's power, using his rapier like jab to open several cuts on "Ruby Robert". A cut under the eye of Fitzsimmons turned into such a gash that in the 11th round the doctor called for the halt to give Turpin a major upset! Turpin was up 6-3 on 2 cards and behind 5-4 on the other. Turpin will be the English representative in the World Tourney.
