Terrapins take Eastern League lead
August 1, 1895
The Baltimore Terrapins moved in front of the Washington Capitals during the month of July by two games as the race to the postseason heats up. The Terrapins finished the month with a 16-10 record. The Brooklyn Wonders remain four and a half games out, with the Buffalo Bisons five games out.
Eastern League Notes
The Eastern League Pitcher of the Month award went to Bert Dorr of the Washington Capitals. Dorr was 5-1 with a 2.50 ERA. It was the second time Dorr has won a Pitcher of the Month award.
Jesse Burkett of the Buffalo Bisons was named the Eastern League Batter of the Month after hitting .364 with 2 home runs, 14 RBI and 32 runs scored.
Western League Notes
Bill Whitrock of the Chicago Pirates won the Western League Pitcher of the month award after going 6-1 with a 1.78 ERA. For the year Whitrock is 16-7 and is scheduled to become a free agent after the season.
Hughie Jennings of the Cleveland Trolleys won the Western League Batter of the Month after hitting .441 with 1 home run, 36 RBI, and 23 runs scored for the month. It was Jennings third Player of the Month award for his career. Jennings is hitting .358 for the season. Jennings finished the month with a 30 game hitting streak.
