Crabs 4-6 Hollers – Another tight one, but once more Harbour Bay came up short in their bid to make up any ground against the FBL pack leaders. Piggville’s top 2 guns – 1B Tuck Thompson (.350,10,43) and RF Spunk Williams (.337,3,53) – were held 0-for-6 collectively, though they did draw 4 walks. The breakthrough for the Hollers came in the bottom of the 6th when, leading 3-2, they got an RBI single from SP Ice Cream Jones (.344,0,9), a sac fly from 3B Bossie Clementine (.328,4,32) and a bases-loaded walk to Thompson. That proved insurmountable, though Bay RP Lucy Deuce (.188,0,3) did her best with a 2-run ducksnort in the 8th to provide the final balance. W: Ice Cream Jones (10-3, 3.52); L: Dazzy Dandridge (7-8, 6.40); S: Blondie Ferguson (1, 3.52); PoG: HB C Boobsy Daniels (3/5, 1rbi)
Blues 6-5 All Stars – West Village LF Justin Thyme (.293,9,50) continued his late resurgence with a 4-hit day, now pulling within sniffing distance of the .300 mark. The Blues had drawn ahead 5-3 by the onset of the 6th, but a solo home run hit by Citypark’s CF DJ Jazzy Twan (.225,14,50) put that too-familiar “oh no, here we go …” feeling in the stomachs of the Village faithful. It didn’t take long for the Blues’ reply – a 7th-frame bolt from Thyme between first and second that plated 3B Hopper Layne. CL Heck Martin, as usual, was up to the task of preserving the lead in the 9th. W: Francine Fokker (3-6, 6.78); L: Mondo Cruz (6-6, 4.20); S: Heck Martin (16, 2.59); PoG: Justin Thyme (4/5, 1r, 1rbi).
Nightmares 7-3 Bullies – Riverbottom plated 5 runs in the top of the 7th to take the overall edge in this season series, 7 games to 6. After being completely stymied for 4 innings by Grimside SP Nacho Daddy, a pair of 2-run singles from CF Snooty Rotheschilde (.297,8,36) and RF Pepper Dotson (.349,16,71) blew the game open. Dotson also came through with her 16th homer of the campaign, sharing top honors with Bumpkindale’s 1B Giggles Mountjoy. LF Dummy Hawhaw (.324,5,50) was the only stalwart for the Grimsiders, who never had a consistent answer for up-and-down SP Mickey Fine. W: Mickey Fine (8-9, 4.68); L: Nacho Daddy (8-3, 5.43); PoG: Pepper Dawson (3/5, 1r, 3rbi, 2b, hr)
Kin 3-1 Burners – A stunningly-efficient game for Bumpkindale SP Hambone Helgersson today, as he allowed just one scratch run over a full 9 innings of work. As for the Kin’s offense, 1B Giggles Mountjoy (.336,16,64) was her usual self, ripping 2 hits in 4 plate appearances with an RBI. Teammate RF Thumby Holt (.324,4,40) also came through with three hits – one of them a 2-run dinger in the 4th that put the Kin up 3-0. W: Hambone Helgersson (7-8, 5.99); L: Cutie Capers (3-10, 5.97); PoG: Hambone Helgersson (9ip, 7h, 1r, 0bb, 1k)
