I agree with this part. I don't think it should work this way either. But Markus has made the deisgn decision and I would think be unlikely to stray.

I don't necessarily agree with this part, though I hear what your saying. I think what happens is that the people that play their games want details that don't really add to the game as a whole. Like we want special AI behavior in the 9th inning. Or added immersion with PbP references to the home park dimensions. I think Markus looks at the bigger picture and finds these type of requests aren't value added, in that the time could better be spent fishing out other things that have value to more players. Maybe the recent poll showing a pretty even split between simmers and players will change that.
Anyway, hope that it doesn't take too much away from your enjoyment of the game. I think Steve's post is pretty accurate. Playing on 1-pitch does give some decision control to the AI and we just have to live with it.
