Bullies 3-4 Hollers – A 2-run ripsnort from reserve CF Jiggs Barnaby (.313,1,7) helped propel Grimside to an early 3-0 lead in the 2nd, and SP Dooley McCooley was able to hold off Piggville for much of the rest of the way. Yet, in the bottom of the 7th, the Hollers broke through with scratch RBI hits from LF Cale Christianson (.337,2,50) and 3B Bossie Clementine (.328,4,28) to pull the game tight at 3-2. McCooley started losing his control in the bottom of the 9th, walking Christianson to start the frame and then throwing wild to first on C Red Harris’ bunt attempt. Clementine then sac-flied Christianson in from third and – a wild pitch from McCooley later – PH Su-Ni Dai (.111,0,2) cracked her first hit of the year, bringing in Harris from third. Ballgame. W: Babe Appleby (10-6, 2.99); L: Dooley McCooley (7-9, 4.25); PoG: Babe Appleby (9ip, 6h, 3r, 3bb, 5k)

Burners 0-3 All Stars – Citypark’s SP Suzy Q. Perkins pitched her best game of the year, recording her first complete-game shutout to give Mgr Snuggles Henderson hope that the hurler is on her way to realizing her potential. At 27 years of age, it’s time. Perkins had a no-hitter going into the 6th until SS Dude O’Day (.215,0,7) – of all people – broke it up with a squibber between first and second. A few more weak hits followed, but no one really tagged the ball for Salemwich all day – witness no extra base hits. Meanwhile, Citypark had staked out a 3-0 lead through 4, getting RBI singles from CF DJ Jazzy Twan (.219,12,36) and LF Groucho Romario (.283,3,21) in the 3rd, followed by a groundout RBI from RF Billy Metro (.333,10,37) in the 4th. That proved more than enough. W: Suzy Q. Perkins (10-3, 5.05); L: Trix Galore (7-9, 4.10); PoG: Suzy Q. Perkins (9ip, 4h, 0r, 0bb, 5k)

Kin 6-7 Nightmares – Riverbottom SP Bling Bling Bermudez looked good in his new jersey until he ran into trouble in the 7th, a 2-run single from SS Babycakes Ramirez (.200,0,18) and a following RBI single from reserve C Butch Bruiser (.213,0,5) drawing the Kin even at 6-6 late. Bling Bling was pulled to toss things around in the dugout – meanwhile 1B Wally Walleye (.284,1,46) saved the day for Riverbottom with a double in the 8th that plated 3B Onion Munyon to restore the lead. CL Angel O’Hare kept it that way. W: Zippo Cook (3-0, 4.54); L: Agatha Jewel (4-2, 1.79); S: Angel O’Hare (10, 0.68); PoG: RIV 2B Sunny Summers (2/4, 1r, 2rbi, hr)

Crabs 9-1 Blues – Another crushing win for Harbour Bay as they look back to their old winning ways. Village SP Hairbow Haley totally lost it in the 4th, walking in a run with the bases juiced and then conceding a 3-run double to CF Scooter Dane (.309,7,49). Matters stood at 4-1 in the 8th when the Baymen struck again, Dane doubling in 2 more to chase Haley from the game. RP Shucky Pie fared no better in the 9th, allowing a sac fly to 2B Prance Staley (.307,5,35) and a 2-run double to 1B Rip Ripperson (.273,7,55) to complete the rout. W: Pebbles Peete (7-5, 3.76); L: Hairbow Haley (7-8, 3.67); PoG: Scooter Dane (2/4,5rbi,2 2bs)

The FBL has the day off in order to pay tribute to the troops. An all-FBL IX defeats a military selection featuring players from all four branches, 4-1. Citypark’s Bully Moe gets the win, helped by RBI singles from Riverbottom’s 3B Onion Munyon and Salemwich C Bonnie Clyde. Bumpkindale CF Amy Earhart homered in the 9th – a 412’ shot to deep center.
