I also have thrown a package of 10 minor league depth players to get one stud prospect, though I think I am done doing that. I've also altered a couple contracts to reflect the real life ones. This felt a bit borderline to me as I didn't do this for all players on every team, just ones on my team.
I'm toying with the idea of forcing some of the retired players to go into coaching. I would do this whether I have an opening or not, so this feels pretty above board (this year I've already filled all my openings), and I'd really like to see Omar Vizquel and Greg Maddox have a future as coaches.
I altered Pablo Sandoval's defense to be better, to reflect what I thought he should be rated as. I overshot it but didn't go back into commissioners mode. Definitely "cheating" and won't happen with any player ever again.
Past that, I think I play with relatively high standards. I agree with the play it your way though, and don't think there is any such thing as cheating in a solo league.
