2009: Too many guys to cover all of the comings an goings. Bob Howry and Rafael Soriano (came over in the McCann trade) ended as the setup guys and had an ERA under 2. Sergio Romo pitched very well, and so did Billy Sadler though he came up late and only tallied 15 IP. Merkin Valdez struggled and only remained on the roster because he was out of options, and we believe in his potential.

2010: Romo, and Affeldt are locks for the bullpen. Valdez needs to be at least decent in Spring Training to remain with the team. We will try to bring back Soriano (3 year deal?) and Howry (1 year deal?) and hopefully they will be willing. That leaves one more spot to fill and no reason to think Sadler won't stick. There are some nice relievers in AA but none really at AAA. If Sadler doesn't stick we will be looking at FA or converting a AAA starter.

Talking about relief prospects is not that interesting. For the most part, even with loads of potential, they are more interesting f they develop into a closer or starter so I'll avoid mentioning names here.

That is our end of 2009 preview of 2010. Should be a busy off-season, where the OF and SP need some help. Really everywhere other than C, 3B and CF on offense could receive an upgrade. We just may have the pieces and payroll flexibility to upgrade through trades, however only if it's a good fit for the future.

Again, I don't know exactly how the off-season works, so not sure what 10/28/2009 will bring, but I expect not as much as today.
