PHILADELPHIA, PA (AP)- After winning the 2008 World Series, the Philadelphia Phillies opened the 2009 MLB Regular Season at home against the Atlanta Braves. In front of a near sellout crowd, as they unveiled the 2008 World Series banner, Cole Hamels completely dominated the game.

Cole would throw a complete game, 2-hit shutout to notch his first victory of the season and picked up right where he left off last season. There wasn't much offense as the Phillies scored only two runs, which both came in the 5th inning. Jimmy Rollins would score Carlos Ruiz on a one out triple. Rollins would score on the very next play thanks to a Raul Ibanez sac fly to right field.

Look for the NL East to be a tough race between the Phillies, Mets and Braves. It should be a very interesting season, so lets get on with the season.
