Boston's David Ortiz is named AL Player of the Week after racking up 10 hits in 21 at bats, 2 home runs, and 5 RBIs last week in 6 games.
Florida's Hanley Ramirez was selected NL Player of the Week after he batted .522 with 12 hits in 23 at bats, 4 home runs and 9 RBIs.
Injury News
Oakland left fielder Jack Cust sustained a torn back muscle running the bases. While the Athletics team doctor was confident Cust would make at least a partial recovery, he was less optimistic about his future in baseball. "Professional ballplayers need to be in peak physical condition. Unfortunately, Jack will be affected by this injury for the rest of his life." (Career Ending Injury)
Minnesota fans will be disappointed to learn that Nick Blackburn developed a finger blister while throwing a pitch in today's game. He is expected to miss 3 weeks.
