Thanks to a dominating performance by Kicakapoo Ed Summers(1-0),the Detroit Tigers started the season off on the right foot by blanking the Chicago White Sox 3-0.Summers went the distance,allowing 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5.
New York Giants star twirler Christy "Big Six" Mathewson(1-0) earned his first victory of the season today,pitching just good enough to edge the Phillies and starter Tully Sparks(0-1).Larry Doyle's sacrifice fly in the top of the 8th inning was the difference in the ballgame.
