I find in my Short A team I am always given the required about but for 1 game I only had 1 catcher. I then looked at the organazation and found the rookie league had 1 and everyone else above my team had 2, the GM fixed it the next day.
as for position players I rarely hold much stock in position rating, but I tend to favor fielding ratings, if you have a guy with high OF Range, arm and error, he will do fine anywhere, for in field I put a stong arm at 3rd with good range, put a SS in with good all around stats and DP high, Second needs range and DP, and first I like good error numbers.
Especally at the minor league level, you will have much success teaching players these postions, and more often than not the players with high positon ratings do worse than the lower ones I put in. Just make sure the guy is not over rated by your scout or you may have a few more errors and such.
To avoid scout error I look at stats as soon as possible and keep and ey on the guy with most range and error percentage and keep in starting as long as he can hit some
