Just thought I'd post some of the results from my first season in case anyone still is interested.
Oddly enough the Phillies beat the Rays in the world series again. I was playing as the the Jays and following the American league and a few things jumped out at me...
Sizemore went .305 43 136 with 29 steals to win the MVP. Very good year.
The Cy Young was a different story. Grant Balfour from the Rays won the award after winning the closer job for the Rays. Somehow he ended up with a 10-1 record with 43 saves (only 2 blown saves) and a 1.53 ERA. Somehow he did all this in only 68.1 innings pitched. But nevertheless an outstanding season froma closer although I have no idea how he ended up with 10 wins and only 2 blown saves...
The reason this seemed strange to me was that playing as the Jays I was following Halladay's season closely and was expecting him to win the Cy Young. He had a season of 24-9 with 199 Ks and a 3.11 ERA while pitching 266.2 innings. He had 28 quality starts and opponents hit only .228 against him. This was a season on par or even better than when Halladay won the Cy Young in real life.
I was really surprised to see Balfour win even though he was leading the league in saves throughout the year. I know award voting has been wonky in the past but it seems to me that the game overvalued the 10 wins from a closer compared to what would have happened with actual voting.
