Ruthlandian Union Final 4 Playoffs - Game Two
Vipers Rap Roosters 9-4, Even Final 4 Series
At War Memorial Stadium in Valmara, the Vipers snapped Middlefield unbeaten streak at seven with a 9-4 shellacking. 1B Masaichi Okawa (.359) and SS Steve Androwski (.326) both homered twice and each batted in four runs to rout the Roosters and even up the Final 4 Series at one game apiece. Okawa has three homers and 18 RBIs in the postseason. Valmara only got seven hits but made each one of them count. They jumped out to a 6-0 margin after two innings with Danny Blauser (3-0 3.26) shutting out Middlefield for five innings. The Roosters mounted a mild comeback and cut the lead to 7-4 with three runs in the seventh, but the Vipers retaliated with two in the bottom of the inning. Blauser registered the win, gave up four runs and eight hits in six and one-third inning with five walks and four Ks. Vanya Vasylenko saved it for him with his second save. Vasylenko held Middlefield hitless over the final two and two-thirds innings. LF Cecil Clark paced the Roosters with three hits. Losing pitcher Jamie Hicks (2-1 3.50) suffered a terribly bad first inning and was tagged for four runs on just one hit and three bases on balls. Okawa sent him reeling with a three-run smash to make it 4-0 in the opening inning. The Roosters never recovered.
Game three will be played tomorrow in Valmara. The winner will go on and contend for the Islandian Pro Cup against the winner of Oxford and Turon.
