Tycobbian Union West Division Sweet 16 Series - Game Two
Viks Head For Elite 8, Knock DC from Playoffs 7-5
The Bayview Vikings knocked Denton City out of the playoffs with a 7-5 win at Downtown Plaza Stadium in front of the hometown fans. The Viks took both games of the series and will now advance to the Elite 8 against the equally tough Turon Typhoons. Bayview was outhit 10-8 today, but when they needed a hit, they got it. The Vikings moved ahead 5-0 after five innings and then repelled the Redbirds late-innings rally. Denton City finished strong with two in the sixth and three in the ninth, but fell short. 1B Chancey Quibedeaux (.182) clouted a two-run roundtripper and RF Ed O'Neal (.318) jacked a solo shot to pace Bayview at bat. 2B Alan Hansen (.571) had three hits and scored twice for the victors. 1B Rob MacCormack (.682), who had an outstanding postseason with a .682 batting average and 11 RBIs, went 3-4 for the Redbirds. 3B Jay Petit (.333) also had three hits. Frank Wells got credit for the win, but suffered long and hard, giving up five runs on 10 hits and walking four. He was constantly in hot water, but survived. Kyle Peterson (1-0 0.00) got the last out of the game for the save. Shoddy defense cost Denton City three runs in the game. The Redbirds committed three errors behind starting pitcher Kent Wells (0-1 3.21), who went down to defeat. Wells worked six innings, allowed six hits and three earned runs.
