Tycobbian Union South Division Sweet 16 Series - Game Two

Turon Staves Off Elimination, Beats SA 2-1 in 12
In a brilliant pitching duel at the Casa de Beisbol in San Alejo, the Turon Typhoons staved off elimination in the TU South Sweet 16 playoffs with a dramatic 2-1 triumph in 12 innings. Turon's James Longstreet logged nine shutout innings and the Montaneros Ernie Arredondo did even better, blanking the Typhoons for 10 innings. Arredondo (1-0 2.12) allowed just four hits, while Longstreet permitted seven. Turon turned five double plays in the game. All the scoring came in the final inning. 3B Ernie Fletcher (.333) was the hero with two-run double in the top of the twelfth off losing pitcher Domenico Belizon (0-1 4.50). The win went to Ian Knox (1-0 3.00), although he was tagged for a home run by SS Ernie Pilar in the last of the twelfth. Knox pitched the last two frames. San Alejo topped Turon in hits 9-7 with Pilar (.667) going 5-for-6. Fletcher and CF Lance Ambrose (.375) led the winners with two hits apiece. The Montaneros stranded 15 baserunners.

San Alejo will host game three tomorrow afternoon. The winner will advance to the Elite 8 against the winner of the Bayview Vikings and Denton City Redbirds. That series will begin on Monday.
