Ruthlandian Union East Division Sweet 16 Series - Game Two

Elnora Sweeps Sugar Valley, Elite 8-Bound
20-game winner Taylor Gibbs sparked the Elnora All-Stars to a 5-1 victory over Sugar Valley to advance them to the RU Elite 8. The All-Stars swept both games from the Rattlers. Gibbs (1-1 2.25) went the distance and checked them on seven hits and one run, while racking up eight Ks and walking three. The All-Stars backed him up with 10 hits, including three home runs. Sugar Valley took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Bruno DiPirro (.278) roundtripper, but C Todd Simons (.176) got them back in front quickly with a two-run two-bagger in the second inning. 3B Dmitri Vrotsos (.471) upped it to 3-1 with a solo clout in the fourth frame and back-to-back blasts by LF Quincy Peterson (.286) and 2B Gil Foster (.333) increased it to 5-1 in the eighth. Vrotsos and Peterson have each hit four homers in the playoffs, while DiPirro has three. Righthander Anthony Glaser was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs and eight hits in six innings.

Elnora now awaits the winner of the Valmara Vipers and Far Mountain Redhawks.
