3 Elnora HRs Sock It To Sugar Valley 6-3
The Elnora All-Stars socked three home runs to defeat the Sugar Valley Rattlers 6-3 in game one of the Sweet 16 series. Blanked 1-0 by Gregg Neal after five innings, the All-Stars rallied with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to knock off the Rattlers. 3B Dmitri Vrotsos (.385) unloaded a two-run homer in the sixth and LF Quincy Peterson (.294) got another two-run clout in the seventh along with a solo shot by 1B Billy Massengale (.375). LF Bruno DiPirro paced Sugar Valley with two hits and a two-run home run. Winning pitcher Harry Dye (2-0 3.55) labored, but notched the win. Dye gave up three runs on seven hits in seven and two-thirds innings, struck out six and walked five. Matty Wilkerson (0-0 0.00) finished up for him, stopping the Rattlers on one hit over the last one and one-third innings for his first playoff save. Neal (0-2 4.15) took the loss, allowing four runs and six hits in six innings with seven Ks and a pair of walks.
The two clubs will meet tomorrow afternoon for game two in the series. It will be played in Elnora at State Fair Park. If it goes to three games, the All-Stars have the home field advantage.
