As expected, the Pittsburg Alleghenys held off the New York Giants to capture the pennant and they will represent the NL in the World Series.




By a mere 1/100 of a percentage point, the Cincinnati Red Stockings will represent the AA in the World Series!! It all came down to the final day where the Red Stockings were playing a doubleheader against St. Louis. The Orioles were playing the Philadelphia Athletics. Going into the day, Cincinnati held a 1 game lead over Baltimore. As the Orioles prepared to play their only game of the day, there was word that the Red Stockings had fallen in their first game to St. Louis. But, the Orioles were unable to tie up the standings and lost 4-1 to Philadelphia thus ending their season. Meanwhile, the Red Stockings went on to lose the 2nd game of the doubleheader as well, but they had already clinched the title.
