Madison ahead of Spokane in gut-wrenching wins, hitting, ERA
MADISON, Wis. -- It was gut-wrenching. It was last-minute. It was a win.
A win that came on a Charles Millender double down the leftfield line in the 10th inning of an 11-11 Game 7.
Millender's hit, which scored pinch hitter Derek Engelman, put Madison in the first ever Gettysburg Series.
Spokane, which was also pushed to a seventh game by Savannah, won 6-3 to advance from the Gray League.
Madison has a slight statistical advantage going into the series. While Spokane won two more games, taking 96 wins to Madison’s 94, the Muskies had a .286 team batting average, 11 points better than the Cougars'. Madison's team ERA, at 4.55, was also slightly better than Spokane’s, which was 3.57.
Neither team has a single dominant starter. Spokane will simply focus on getting the ball to its 28-year-old workhorse Walter Broland and the rest of its bullpen. Borland was 8-1 during the regular season with a 1.38 ERA and 104 innings in 101 appearances.
Madison's 26-year-old outfielder Kevin Roe will look to wreck Spokane's pitching. The MVP candidate bat .373 with 118 RBI. They won't be able to pitch around the slugger either. Third baseman Matthew Polster hit .339 this season with 109 RBI.

League-by-League Dispatches
Great Lakes
The Mason/Dixon Series concluded with a spectacular game 7, fitting for the first ever post-season in the league.
Madison won the game 12-11 and will now play Spokane for the bragging rights of the first champion.
There's no talk about playoff experience, or veterans.. the league is brand new and everyone is
entering things for the first time together. Muskie manager Alex Lamabe however has some great
post-season experience from the GBC Prime.
"It helps, I can relate to the players since I was playing less than 5 seasons ago. I think we've played with our heads on and as the old over-used expression went, 'we took it a game at a time'. Our starters have been big, our bullpen bigger, and some of our offensive players have really stepped up in the post-season... I love how this team has played together."
EDITOR’S NOTE: Dispatches are taken directly from posts and attributed when the owner’s name is immediatly available. Only posts made after the Monday sim will be included. This is done to be certain all reports are still timely and information has not been made invalid because.
