The Pittsburg Alleghenys are surging and the New York Giants are sinking faster than rocks in a lake right now. Pittsburg went 23-8 in August to go from 9.5 games back in 3rd place to now leading by 2.5 games. Their pitcher Milo Lockwood has been superb and is leading all 3 triple crown catergories for pitchers (ERA, WINS, K's). Meanwhile, the Giants suffered through a 5 game losing streak and a 7 game streak that saw them lose 2 straight back-to-back to doubleheaders against Philadelphia. Perhaps though, the pennant race will be decided at the beginning of September as Pittsburg and New York meet for a 4 game series in 3 days with the first day being a doubleheader.

Going into the final month or so of the season, the Association is still a 3 team race with Baltimore asserting itself as the front runner now. As for the other 2 teams, Cincinnati can slug it out with the best of teams and Louisville can limit any team with their duo of Knight and Bradley.
