High Mesa Star Captures TU Bat Crown
Ed Granberg of the High Mesa Cowboys capped a fine season by winning the Tycobbian Union batting crown. He outpaced all others with his .359 average. For the season, the Cowboys second baseman played in 151 games, collected 212 hits, 21 home runs, scored 119 times and knocked in 108 runs.
Kenny Jablonski, first sacker for the La Claire Lynx, was the runner-up. Jablonski batted .343 with 16 homers and 80 runs batted in in 139 games.
Ozarka's fine center fielder Kermit Wiggins finished third with a .342 batting average. Wiggins played in all 154 games and had a standout season with 71 stolen bases, 107 runs and 67 RBIs.
Also batting .342 was Oxford's hard-hitting first baseman Joe Courtney. In 152 games, the 28-year-old Courtney paced the IPA with 47 roundtrippers, while driving in 122 runs and scoring 127 times
