Tycobbia Blanks Ruthlandia 2-0 In 2003 All-Star Game
For the second year in a row, the Tycobbian Union All-Stars shut out the Ruthlandian Union All-Stars in the third annual Islandian Pro Alliance All-Star Game. The TU Stars took a 2-0 victory at Midway's Joe Wolf Stadium in front of almost 8,000 cheering fans. All the scoring came in the third inning when winning pitcher Tal Vaitkus (Hartsdale) nailed a Danny Blauser (Valmara) fastball and sent it soaring into the woods behind the outfield fence for the first run of the game... run number two came on on doubles by first baseman Chancey Quibedeaux (Bayview) and second sacker Karol Zadoka (East Point). Blauser (Valmara) suffered the defeat.
Vaitkus was voted the game's most valuable player... Tycobbia's mound corps struck out five and walked three, while allowing seven hits... Ruthlandia got strong pitching, too... Tycobbia only got six hits in all, while fanning five times and walking twice... First baseman Phil Gravelli (Belair Beach) led all hitters with two singles in his two at-bats.
Frisky Franks of the High Mesa Cowboys was the winning manager, while Zoggy White of Elnora took the loss... Franks' club played splendid defense and turned four double plays... Tycobbia used 8 pitchers in the game, while Ruthlandian worked 7 hurlers in all... Only three players did not get into the game... All three were pitchers that had to be saved in case of extra innings.
Last year Tycobbian won the IPA All-Star Game 6-0 at Marston's Legends Field. In the 2001 inaugural game at the Frog Pond in Fairfax, Ruthlandia scored four runs in the ninth to stun Tycobbia 5-4... Tycobbia leads in the series two games to one.
