1888 End of June: National League & American Association
After finishing 30+ games out of 1st place the previous 2 years, the Washington Nationals are dominating the rest of the league through their pitching staff. George Bradley (17) and Bill Wise (12) are responsible for most of the wins. With every other team playing .500 ball besides the Quakers, it is the Nationals pennant to lose. Meanwhile, Ross Barnes is making an impressive comeback from injury as he is batting .326 (31-95) in 29 games. While it doesn't show up in their record, the New York Giants have been led by an offensive monster in their lineup. "Silent Mike" Tiernan is on pace for astronomical numbers and is leading all 3 triple crown categories (AVG, HR, RBI). If Tiernan keeps up the pace, he would become the first triple crown winner in ML history.
