There's really no such thing as a hitter who calls a late timeout. Like PP said, it's the umpire who calls late timeouts. Any competent umpire will simply ignore a late timeout request from a hitter. The umpire in this Beckett/Angels situation f'ed up by granting the timeout when he did.
