Tuesday, June 18th, 2120: Montoya Hittin' on All Cylinders
"It's too bad I can't do that every day," Alfredo Montoya said with a smile to reporters after today's game. "It would do wonders for my batting average." Montoya had every right to be in a good mood after hitting for the cycle today against Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field. The Whalers won the ballgame 6-2, he hit for the cycle, had a 4-for-5 game and boosted his batting average up a few points. The 35-year-old Hartford catcher chalked up 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored for the game, too.
Who says you can't have it all?
He told the press that a triple is the tough hit to get in a cycle. "As soon as it left the bat, guys jumped off the bench and were rooting hard for me to have enough gas to get there," Montoya said. "It was hard to enjoy it... I was breathing too hard... you got to really be in shape to run out a triple."
A. Montoya doubled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off T. Ito in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season, Montoya has recorded a .279 batting average with 62 hits, 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, 43 runs scored and a .377 OBP.
The Whalers are now 51-18, the Rays are 39-30.
