This is worrisome, as the second part is incredibly untrue. I hope you're assuming that yourself rather than having it told to you. If the publisher asks you for money, run and fast.
By the way, books you ought to be looking at - Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series, the first book is
The Warrior's Apprentice, is an incredibly popular (and good) series that's fairly similar. There are quite a few others on very similar themes, and I can give you a list if you want, but that's the big one at the moment. It's a pretty successful subgenre, so I wouldn't worry too much about repeating territory others have covered.
