The battle for the best franchise ever
The year is 2101. The setup is based on the current Major League Baseball format, with some new teams thrown in to balance out the leagues and divisions. There are six divisions with six teams each, and two subleagues. Here are the teams:
AL East
Baltimore Orioles
Boston Red Sox
Hartford Whalers
New York Yankees
Tampa Bay Rays
Toronto Blue Jays
AL Central
Chicago White Sox
Cleveland Indians
Detroit Tigers
Kansas City Royals
Minnesota Twins
New Orleans Jazz
AL West
Anaheim Angels
Oakland Athletics
Portland Pilots
San Antonio Roadrunners
Seattle Mariners
Texas Rangers
NL East
Atlanta Braves
Florida Marlins
Montreal Expos
New York Mets
Philadelphia Phillies
Washington Nationals
NL Central
Chicago Cubs
Cincinnati Reds
Houston Astros
Milwaukee Brewers
Pittsburgh Pirates
St. Louis Cardinals
NL West
Arizona Diamondbacks
Colorado Rockies
Las Vegas Aces
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Diego Padres
San Francisco Giants
I will decide the best overall franchise with a point system. This point system will nicely reward teams for regular season success. However, the only team to be remembered after the season is the World Series winner, so there will be a nice bonus for playoff success too. In my universe, it's make the playoffs or bust, as nobody remembers who misses the playoffs.
Winning division = 50 points
Qualifying as wild card = 40 points
Missing playoffs = 0 points
Winning LDS = 5 points
Winning LCS = 10 points
Winning World Series = 15 points
Therefore, a team who wins the World Series as a division winner will earn 80 total points for the season. A team who wins the World Series as a wild card will earn 70 points for the season.
