Yup, I have done this successfully. BUT minors did not crash me so maybe your challenge lies there?

I did not need to change the number of teams to 16 in 1910 as that is how many there were already so could this also be an issue?

I set all era_stats to be the same every year.

Low SO/HR totals are to be expected as ratings for those abilities are low across the board for all players in the teens. The OOTP modifier system will help with that as the league gets older but they'll never make it all up or at least they did not for me when I did what you are attempting.
