OFFSEASON

Roster Moves

Traded P Patrick Shaw to the Minneapolis Loons for SP Luis Ramirez and SP Darrell Stokes. Luis Ramirez is a 24 year old Starting Pitcher who spent time in AAA and in the CBA last season. For the Loons he was 5-4 5.27 in 12 starts. He walked 19 and struck out 73. My scout is very high on Luis and thinks he could anchor a staff. Darrell Stokes is 34 and last year he was 12-11 3.99 in 31 starts. He walked 93 and struck out 113. This move gives me two decent starters and gives me more money by getting rid of Patrick's huge contract.

Resigned 3B Pablo Rodriguez to a 1 year deal worth $690,000. Brought him back for a lot cheaper than he was last year. Hopefully he can stay healthy this season.

Signed MR Miguel Garcia to a 2-year contract worth $4.5 million total. Miguel is a well-traveled pitcher. He spent time in Boston in 2041-2042 and again in 2044-2045. He spent last season between Chicago and Hollywood and was 1-4 4.68 in 32 games. He walked 12 and whiffed 40 batters.

Signed MR Lee Bell to a 2-year contract worth $3.18 million. Lee is 35 years old and was 1-1 with 2 saves and a 3.79 ERA for Mpls. I think the signing of Lee and Miguel will help make the bullpen a lot stronger than last season.

Signed SP Octavio Rojas to a minor-league contract. Octavio jumped at a chance early in the FA period to sign my minor league deal. He doesn't have a history and is purely injury insurance at this time. Unless he really turns things around I think the team would be in serious trouble if he is in the CBA, yet he will be a top starter for AAA I believe.

Lost OF Roy Browne in the Rule 5 draft. I don't think this guy will be much of a loss. He hit .282-1-37 last season in AAA.

Top Contracts Signed in the Offseason

RF Rafael Trevino was the big winner this offseason. He cashed in his Outstanding Batter Award for a 5-year $89 million contract with the Pittsburgh Bees.

The Atlanta Kings opened their wallet for SS Miguel Garcia. He is almost as rich as Rafael with a 5-year $88 million deal. Miguel hit .278-18-77 this past season. He has hit over 24 HRs three times in his career and has 2 Glove Wizard Awards.

C Dan Hart's 2-year near $40 million deal gives him the highest salary out of this year's free agents. Dan is taking his act coast to coast as he moves from Tampa Bay over to San Diego. Last season with Tampa Bay he .312-38-92 and has .314-443-1325 career numbers.

Offseason Draft
I thought I was going to get 2 extra #1 picks this season, but somehow only ended up with 1 extra. Nevertheless, I still had the #1 overall pick. The only perk for being the worst team in history.

While I was really wanting to pick a pitcher with the #1 pick, there just wasn't a pitcher that was really worth that pick. So here is the recap of the first 5 rounds of the draft.

Round 1 OF Jimmy MacDonald - Hamilton HS - Jimmy has all the makings of a perennial all-star and should step in as the top ceiling guy in the system. He was a 4-year starter and ended with .381-21-102 career numbers. He also walked twice as much as he struck out.

Round 1 SP Jose Reyes - St. Augustine HS - I overruled the scout on this one. He wanted another OF. I took the best available pitcher. Jose didn't have the best high school career but he had the best tools ratings by the scout. His senior season he had a 2-4 record with a 6.80 ERA.

Round 3 OF Fernando Garcia - Bartlett HS - Went with the scout's pick here after not having a 2nd round pick due to a FA signing. This past season Fernando hit .287-6-27 for Bartlett. For his career he was .305-34-106.

Round 4 MR Juan Jijon - Hopkins HS - Juan had a pretty good senior season. He was 4-0 3.48 and showed pretty good control throughout his HS career. I look forward to watching him move through the system as there is currently very little pitching depth.

Round 5 CL Pedro Reyna - George Washington HS - I think he got caught up in the birthday game. He has a 12/31 birthday so he was 18 when the last draft occurred but 19 when the season rolled around and was ineligible to play this past season. In 2045, he was 1-0 with 10 saves and a 5.29 ERA. He had ok control and again gives depth to the system.
