April 17th, 1901
Spring Training has come to a close. The mighty Cardinals finished the spring at 20-4. All four starters finished with four wins, as did reliever Pablo Gutierrez, who also had five saves and a 1.09 ERA over 33 IP in 14 games.
3B Preston Thomas hit .422 in spring training, and 2B Orlando Ortiz hit .364 with 16 RBI. Robison Field was a cavern for RHB, and playing in the deadball era as well, the Cardinals only hit 2 HR over the entire course of the spring. I guess I better get used to that.
No major injuries in spring training!
The owners expectations: Make the playoffs. Of course, that means I need to win the National League!
The 1901 season begins with four games with the Chicago Orphans.
