I have Gimp 2.4.6 and am still trying to figure it out.

I'm trying to create flag jerseys along the lines of what tombair has done. What I want to do is create a jersey in the proper jersey shape, with the flag design making up the jersey. I have been able to create a layer on the jersey template with the flag image I want, but I wind up with this:
