Castro's go 1 for 2 in Title Bids

In the main event that was going off at even odds Armando Castro (25-0-2-20) and Edgar Omar Monserrat(23-1-1-10) both appeared to not be in peak physical condition. Monserrat entered the bout coming off an eighth round knockout win over Willie Jensen, while Castro won an eight round unanimous decision over Kongtoranee Payakaroon. Monserrat won the first round as he was the quicker of the two and used a crisp jab to keep Castro at bay. Castro was able to get closer to Monserrat in the second and landed some heavy hooks to the body and head. Monserrat was back in control in the third using his jab once again to keep Castro off of him. Castro won the fourth again with heavy handed combos. Monserrat seemed to be pulling away after the fourth as he easily won the fifth and sixth rounds with sharp combos and even some power shots of his own, Castro was winning a big round in the seventh when he was deducted a point for low blows. So after seven I had it 4-2-1 in favor of Monserrat. As the eighth round began Monserrat was looking a little worn down and Castro took full advantage as he charged out of the corner and landed a picture perfect one, two combo that dropped Monserrat for a count of six. Monserrat was dropped quickly a second time by a blistering uppercut Monserrat rose at the count of nine and looked to be in bad shape and with over a minute to go in the round he had his work cut out for him. Castro remained calm and stalked his opponent and another perfectly timed uppercut dropped Monserrat for the third time in the round and Referee Tony Perez did not even bother to count and waved the fight over. Great win for Castro who was behind on all three score cards at the time of the stoppage.

In- The Co-Feature we had #1 ranked WBC contender Alberto Castro (25-0-2-16) facing #2 ranked WBC contender Jesus Rojas (14-0-2-4) in a twelve round bout for the vacant WBC Championship. This bout was extremely competitive and hard to score. Both men fought at a torrid pace thru four rounds and landed some incredible power punches. As the fifth round came to a close Alberto Castro had swelling under both of his eyes. Joe Souza did an incredible job keeping Castro in this fight. After six I had the fight scored 4-1-1 in favor of Rojas. At this point Castro seemed to be the fresher of the two and slowly climbed his way back into the fight winning rounds seven and eight with some great work on the inside and even opened a cut above the right eye of Rojas. Rojas battled back in the ninth and landed some great combos. Both men showed sturdy chins in this one. Castro roared back in rounds ten and eleven and clearly won these rounds as he again was able to punish Rojas on the inside. Going into the last round the fight was up in the air on my card as I had it scored 5-5-1. Rojas got on his bicycle in the last round and used a superb jab to keep Castro away and earn the nod on my card. Scores were 116-113 Castro, 115-114 Rojas and 115-115 a draw. I really can't complain with the decision it was a very close and competitive fight. I'm looking forward to these two meeting again to settle this one.

In the support bout we had two undefeated pre-prime boxers who were stepping up their competition level facing off against each other. Cobra Ari Blanca (13-1-3-2) and Kenji Matsumura (12-0-1-3) entered the ring in great shape. Blanca came out trying to land the big punches and Matsumura easily made him miss and with the first punch Matsumura landed, a picture perfect counter right hook put Blanca to sleep at 1:30 of the first round. Very impressive showing for Matsumura who coming into the bout was not known as a huge banger so it makes you wonder about Blanca's chin.

The opening bout featured Jose Quirino (3-0-0-0) who won a easy four round unanimous decision over TC Javiar Diaz (0-6-0-0). Nothing special about the performance very workman like.
