Montefusco Wins AL Cy Young Honors
Chicago White Sox pitcher John "The Count" Montefusco broke the Baltimore strangehold on the Joy in Mudville Cy Young Award.
Montefusco easily outdistanced three-time winner Tom Seaver of the Orioles for the honor.
The 26-year-old Montefusco led the AL with a 23-7 record. His 1.67 ERA broke teammate Wilbur Wood's league mark. Montefusco also struck out 249 batters in 311.2 innings.
What's more is that Montefusco pitched for a sixth-place club in the White Sox.
