May 15,16,17 v Durham Bobcats (17-14)

May 15-Jesus Guardado pitched eight innings, giving up five hits and just one run with one walk and five strikeouts, and Roberto Rodriguez would supply all the offense the Mules would need with an RBI double in the 3rd and a solo HR in the 6th as Newmarket beat Durham 2-1. John Coury pitched a scoreless ninth for his 8th save of the year. (20-13)

May 19-Domingo Garcia went 3-4 with a homerun, three RBI and two runs scored as Portsmouth held off a furious ninth inning rally to beat Newmarket 5-4. The Mules trailed 5-0 entering the 9th inning, and after a two run double from Sergio Hernandez and two run HR from Alberto Flores, and a Luis Ortiz single, the Mules had the tying run on third with two outs, but that was as close as they'd get as Millard Watkins struck out to end the game. (21-15)

Guardado allowed just six hits and three walks with two strikeouts, earning his 6th win of the year. The news wasn't all good for Newmarket however, as Fernando Peralta, back after 3 weeks with an injury was lost in the 9th inning with fractured ribs suffered running into the wall and will miss another month. He was placed on the DL and prize 1B prospect Patrick Lafontaine was called up to take his spot on the roster from the AA Honolulu Monkeys. (22-15)
