The old file will not work because the format has changed from when that schedule was originally made. The old file though was basically just converted into the new format with no real changes to the layout of games.

Also I find it strange that so many schedules are made for 2 subleagues without interleague play. It seems as if you can just import them one subleague at a time, and that there is nothing to gain except maybe a few seconds of clicking, yet it ruins flexibility (and seems like a huge waste of time for whoever is creating the schedule) if one of the subleagues has a different structure. Am I incorrect about that?

Well, I see where you are coming from, but really it does not matter. The parameters can be adjusted routinely to work for another layout. E.g., a 2S/1D/4T layout schedule can be easily relabeled and set to work for a 1S/2D/4T layout. Almost always when I make a non-interleague 2-subleague schedule it is by making just one subleague schedule, copying it to make the second, then merging them together into one file.
