Reds, Mets Agree to Three-Player Trade
The Cincinnati Reds traded a minor league prospect to the New York Mets for two pitchers late Saturday night.
The Reds sent outfielder Larry Herndon to the Mets for Ed Figueroa and Tom Hausman.
The deal gives the Reds a starter in the form of the 27-year-old Figueroa. The Puerto Rican right-hander, however, has struggled since a solid rookie season in 1974. That year Figueroa went 15-13 with a 2.92 ERA.
Since then, Figueroa has gone 11-25. He was just 1-5 in 10 starts this season. Figueroa was the 14th player taken in the 1973 amateur draft.
The 23-year-old Hausman was a fourth-round pick by New York in the '74 draft. Hausman, a right-hander, has pitched well in the minors.
In the meantime, Herndon gives the Mets more outfield depth. The 22-year-old has hit for high averages in the minors. In addition, Herndon can play all three outfield positions. He was Cincinnati's second-round pick in 1973.
