Torres Narrowly Earns Decision over Tomori

#10 Jr Flyweight Contender German Torres (15-0-0-8) earned a hard fought majority decision over #9 ranked Tadashi Tomori (16-1-1-3). Thru the first two rounds it seemed Tomori was going to easily outbox Torres as he was landing with an incredible jab. The third round was even on my scorecard. Torres came out determined in the fourth and landed his first big punches of the fight which Tomori took well. Tomori launched his own bombs in the fourth and may have actually pulled out the round. Over the next two rounds both men fought at a great pace I scored one round even and one for Torres. As the sixth round began Torres looked more fatigued then Tomori but it may have been an illusion because Torres had his best round of the fight and was lighting Tomori up. Tomori withstood the barrage and remained calm firing back but could not match Torres' output. Over the last four rounds both men looked fatigued but kept fighting at a torrid pace. This is where Torres seemed to take over. The final round was incredible as both men went for broke as I had it even on my scorecard going into the last round. Both men stood and traded landing impressive bombs and to both mens credit they showed great chins as neither man was hurt thru out the bout. Torres won the tenth in my eyes but it was a very close round and the final scores showed it. Scores were 96-95 Torres, 95-95 and 97-94. This was a great victory for Torres who i'm sure will rise in the rankings and may get himself in line for a title shot.

In the co feature we had #17 Rudolfo Blanco (16-0-0-2) win a 10 round majority decision over # 23 ranked Pretty Boy Lucas (14-2-0-6). The pre-prime boxing Blanco did not perform like a 5-1 favorite as the pre-prime slugging Lucas made this fight interesting from the opening bell on. Blanco was gonna be in for a long night when early in the first a Lucas hook appeared to break Blanco's nose and caused him problems thru out the night as he was having a difficult time breathing. Lucas made this bout interesting throwing an incredible 1125 punches. I had the fight even after five rounds and while Lucas seemed tired as the sixth frame began it was Lucas who dominated the sixth and seventh rounds. The final three rounds were evenly fought but with a definate edge to Blanco. The scores were 96-95, 95-95 and 97-94 for Blanco who was definately tested in this one. "I stepped up in my level of competition and came thru with a win. Can't ask for more then that. I would have liked to have gotten him out of there, but a win is a win"

In the support bout #24 ranked Hilario Zapata (20-2-0-4) won a pretty convincing 8 round unanimous decison over # 23 ranked Hwan-Jin Kim (10-1-1-2). Zapata easily controlled the bout thru out but Kim did not lay down he tried for eight rounds but was just not in the same league as the 15-2 favorite Zapata. Zapata outlanded Kim 360-104 and at an accuracy rate of 69.4. How Kim absorbed that punishment and was never hurt is beyond me.

In the second preliminary bout we had Luis Estaba (5-1-0-3) win a pretty dull 6 round split decision over TC Jose Cordova(0-3-0-0). Estaba didn't seem like he wanted to be there and fought like it. Cordova outlanded Estaba 120-118.

In the first preliminary bout we saw explosive newcomer Alli Galvez (2-0-0-2) just demolish TC Jesus Barajas (1-3-0-0) with one right hook at 1:39 of the first round. Too early to tell if this kid will turn into something secial but he has been fun to watch in his first two bouts.

And finally in the opening bout we saw Rolando Pascua (1-0-0-0) easily outclass TC Jaime Amarias (0-5-0-0) over four rounds to earn a unanimous decision victory with scores of 40-36 across the board.

In May Yoko Gushiken 21-0-0-18 will meet Vincenzo Belcastro (20-0-1-1) for the vacant WBA Jr Flyweight Championship.Gushiken earns the right with his 5th round TKO victory over Jorge Cano (10-1-2-2) while Belcastro won a 10 round unanimouse decision over Godfrey Nkate (18-3-1-5) In the Co Feature Myung-Woo Yuh 17-0-0-3 who captured the APBC Jr Flyweight title with a 12 round unanimous decision over Nestor Vorasingh (11-1-0-1) will face German Torres (15-0-0-8) who won a ten round majority decision over Tadashi Tomori (16-1-1-3) for the vacant WBC Jr Flyweight Championship
