Rattlers Dealing Again, Get Watford for Bartz
The last day to make a deal in the IPA is tomorrow. So GMs Earl Mann and Clem Rogers got busy today. A trade between the Colfax Blasters and the Sugar Valley Rattlers was made official this morning. Colfax has sent 30-year-old reliever Val Watford and 30-year-old right fielder Wiley Reese to Sugar Valley in exchange for 25-year-old right fielder Cy Bartz.
Sugar Valley's GM Earl Mann commented, "We need help in pitching and Watford is a prize. He will give us another fine arm. I'm sure he will get much more use with the Rattlers than than the Blasters, who have a wealth of pitching. They just couldn't give him many innings. It wasn't for a lack of talent, he got caught in a numbers game. The Rattlers are delighted to have him and will make great use of him."
Colfax GM/Manager Clem Rogers spoke at the press conference and said, "Bartz gives us another good bat with power. He should give us a good boost in run production. Watford is a good pitcher, but you got to give something to get something. He was the only way the deal would have been completed."
Year-to-date Watford has appeared in 10 games with 2 starts and 21 strikeouts in 23 innings. Watford has 2 wins and 1 loss and a 3.47 earned run average. Currently Bartz has 32 doubles and 10 home runs and a .269 batting average with 49 RBIs, while Reese has just been a utility outfielder. Reese has played in only 20 games and is hitting only .173.
