Brewers, Phillies Complete Trade
The Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies completed a two-player trade Thursday evening.
Milwaukee dealt 25-year-old pitcher Wayne Garland to Philadelphia for 23-year-old minor leaguer Mike Ivie.
Garland appeared in just five games this season with the Brewers. The right-hander was 1-0 with three saves. Garland had not given up an earned run in 5.1 innings of relief this season.
A year ago, Garland started 41 games for Milwaukee. He posted a 14-14 record with a 4.80 ERA. The Nashville native was the first pick in the third round of the 1972 amateur draft.
Meanwhile, Ivie was a second-round selection by the Phillies in the 1970 draft. Originally a catcher, Ivie has since moved to the infield. He appeared in just 13 JIM games and carries a .156 career big league average.
Ivie, an Atlanta native, is a three-time minor league all-star. He batted .324 over his bush league career.
