Actually, wait...if you are using your backup after getting done with the undelete utility, won't the players.dat file still leave out retired players, thus not allowing you to look a person's name up in Pierre's editor?

You backup, then run the undelete utility, then open your game up and create reports (so retired players will be included) then close the game and restore your pre-undelete backed up file, then reopen game and proceed to next season. Does that make sense. Sorry, I didnt get much sleep maybe I am not explaining it that well.
With Pierre's player editor you can look up retired players without having to undelete them. The only thing I used the undelete for was so I could unretire them and create player pages for former players in my league.
BTW, you only need to use the undelete one season since all the retired players will never change once their reports are generated.
