Tycobbian Union - East Division

Ninjas on 5-game Win Streak, Whip Hellcats 8-3
Toshiharu Ito of the first place Ginza Ninjas ran his record to 7-1 with his seventh win in a row. The stocky, 25-year-old righthander whipped the Hartsdale Hellcats 8-3, holding them to seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts. It was Ginza's fifth successive victory and Hartsdale's sixth straight defeat. His teammates backed him with three homers and nine hits and were led by first baseman Kenshin Yamamoto (.288) with a grand slammer, the highlight of a six-run first inning, third baseman Kaz Ojima (.311) also homered in the first frame and center fielder Takashi Fujimoto (.291) with a two-run shot in the seventh. Stan Vandenberg (0-3 11.12) never got anyone out in the first inning and lost his third consecutive game.

Ojima was hit in the face, while running the bases and will miss several days with a swollen eye.

The Ninjas (42-30) are on top of the Tycobbian Union East standings, while the Hellcats (31-41) are floundering in the basement, 11 games behind in the race.

Z's Rally, Zap 'Canes 11-8 in 10 Innings

The Zorros leaped ahead 4-1 after three innings, the Hurricanes took back the lead 7-4 after a six-run fourth, the Z's rallied to tie it at 7-7 in the ninth and won it 11-8 with a four-run uprising in the tenth. Luxora outhit Cape Coral 15 to 12 and were sparked by first baseman Paul Hallenbeck (.331) with 4-6, including a three-run homer, right fielder Pedro Vizquel (.290), who drove in three runs, and shortstop Vince Cooper (.321) with 4-5, two runs scored and an RBI. The 'Canes top batters were right fielder Danny Mullins (.336) with 2-6 and two runs batted in, left fielder Rod Kelly (.319) with 3-5, two runs and an RBI and third baseman Scoop Estes (.283), who drove in two runs. Closer Roberto Martinez (6-3 2.22) carved out the victory, allowing only one run in three innings, while Scotty Lohmeyer (2-4 3.90) got nailed with the loss as he was ripped for six runs in two-plus innings.

The defeat dropped Cape Coral (38-34) 4 games back of the Ginza Ninjas (42-30) in the TU East Division. Luxora (33-37) is 8 games behind in the fifth spot.

Stallions Walk Away with 10-2 Win Over Nats
The South Fork Stallions literally "walked away" with a 10-2 triumph over Ozarka and climbed over them into third place, dropping the Nats to fourth. The Naturals walked 11 batters in the game at Jock Ewing Stadium to set an IPA record for the most walks in a regulation game. Leading South Fork to an easy win was first baseman Keith Burke (.328) with a pair of hits, two runs scored and an RBI, right fielder Paul Giles (.283) added in 2-4 and scored once and second baseman Bob Jones (.299) with 1-for-2, three runs scored and a run batted in. Ken Conner (4-2 2.47) garnered his first win as a starter, fanning six, walking only one and giving up eight base hits. This was Conner's first complete game. Ozarka's first baseman Floyd Snow (.229) hit his 14th roundtripper to pace them. Donnie Young (5-5 4.15) suffered the defeat by surrendering four runs in four frames.

Forest City is the present recordholder for the most bases on balls in an extra-inning game. They were walked 11 times in an eleven-inning 6-5 win over Sugar Valley on May 8th.

South Fork (36-36) has run off three victories in succession and Ozarka (35-37) has bit the dust in its last four contests. The Stallions are third, 7 games off the pace and the Naturals (35-37) have slipped to fourth place.
