Dave, welcome aboard. I did the exact opposite a few years ago and bought EHM
I knew very little about hockey stats, but loved the game so much and began to learn a lot more about hockey through the forums and game itself. Hopefully the same will happen here for you. There is a great community that is willing to help. Please don't feel silly asking question about what certain stats are or anything like that. I have been a baseball fan for my entire life and there are still lots of things that I learn thanks to OOTP and the community. Hope you enjoy.
