Ezzard Charles vs. Jersey Joe Walcott

Walcott meets his old nemesis in Ezzard Charles in the final bout of the Second Round of the tournament. As always, Charles and Walcott are closely matched. A Walcott punch opens a huge, gushing gash over Charles’ left eye in the 4th. The cut is reopened in the 5th and the Mills Lane calls a halt to the bout. Walcott was leading slightly on all three cards at the time of the stoppage. It was anti-climactic in many ways because both fighters are capable of some memorable performances in the ring against each other. This one was cut short. But I'd by lying if I said I was cheering when Jersey-Joe won!

This bout concludes the 2nd round of the tournament!
