Consider first how many pro teams the New York and Boston greater metro areas have:
Baseball: NY 2, BOS 1
Football: NY 2, BOS 1
Basketball: NY 2, BOS 1
Hockey: NY 3, BOS 1
TOTAL: NY 9, BOS 4
Now, how many championships have been won since January 2002?
Baseball: NY 0, BOS 2
Football: NY 1, BOS 3
Basketball: NY 0, BOS 1
Hockey: NY 1, BOS 0
TOTAL: NY 2, BOS 6
So NY has gotten 2 championships from 9 teams, while Boston has gotten 6 titles from 4 teams, and you say NY has done better?
If you mean "all time" I assume you'll bring up the Yankees. Great history, no doubt: they've won 26 World Series in 105 years (25% of the time). But I'll see you and raise you the Boston Celtics, who have 17 titles in the 59 years of the NBA, or 28% of the time.
All that said, this "Titletown" question is just another lame stunt by ESPN that makes them look foolish. Green Bay has been known as Titletown, it's their nickname, so why insult those nice folks there by trying to steal the nickname and give it to Boston, NY or anyone else? Ridiculous. Green Bay is Titletown to me. Congrats.
