After a search in the database for the first year of Mike Piazza.

Lahman = "piazzmi01","1992","1","LAN","NL"
Gambo = piazzmi01,1988,1,LAN,NL

So yes you got Mike Piazza sooner, but I was wrong since it looks like the first year is the draft year, not the first year in the minor.
