Yup. Free agent. Looking at their team history, Toronto had serious financial issues in 2028. They won their division with a 97-65 record, drew 3.3M fans, but had a $103.4M payroll and lost around $7M dollars. I'm guessing that they just plain couldn't afford to extend him or compete in free agency. The payroll in 2028 was the second-highest in franchise history. Mexico City, on the other hand, routinely carries a payroll of over $100M.
